Who here loves Are You Afraid of the Dark? Yep, my hand is raised. I adored that show growing up, and I thought…hmmm…wouldn’t it be cool if instead of teens around a campfire telling scary stories….there was a book about four women around a fire pit telling sexy stories???????
BAM!
I felt like Sarah Blakely when she made Spanx! (praying to the gods I’m even half as success as she is!!!!)
I digress.
Anyway, I owe a lot of this idea to one of my best friends, Heather. I was going through a really terrible time writing and everyday, it was some huge uphill battle to sit at the computer and generate words. And this was even before the pandemic hit. And she said to me, “Just write. Just write something small and sexy. You love romance, you love erotica. Write that. Don’t worry about anything else. Just write a small sexy scene.”
And I did. And it wasn’t as hard as I thought. (The writing process, not the hero.) And you know what? It was a ton of fun. And I wrote another scene. And another. And another. And that’s when the idea came…four friends telling sexy stories in the dark. With wine.
The words poured out of me. I had generated something like 21 stories in about a week. It felt great. And I found the joy in writing again.
So in homage to best friends everywhere and that cult classic show, the The Lace Garter Society was born. Welcome.
